A brief description of your content and artistic principles.

The content of my work is made up of a merging of live dance and recorded video. As a live performance artist, the form is born from modern dance choreography as well as highly structured and studied improvisational experiments. The recorded aspect is manifested both in video projections functioning as a part of or companion to the live work, or a piece of dance choreography created exclusively  for the lense of a camera and existing as dance on film, or screen dance. All of these modalities are informed by a strong desire for abstract and formalistic movement. A strong desire to research the event driven nature of time, as we experience it in live performance. And a strong desire to bring the purity of shape and geometry into a visual thesis.

A few major questions about the role of art in society have been acting as a spring board for me in these endeavours. Firstly, what is the audiences role to play in a particular work? How do they impact and influence, when are they needed or not needed? Why are some audience structures continued without question? Where do we need to evolve or preserve, and is this based on the work itself or what needs a human society may have as they take on the role of audience and observer?; Secondly, is formal art a legitimate form of communication?; Thirdly, how can a structural process interact with a creative process of intuition? Where does the divide between improvisation and choreography blur or solidify?

My artistic principles are:

Ellevating aesthetic feelings. Creating a visual experience meant to spark intellectual thought. Dealing with immediate creation vrs structured pre-planning. Dealing with the tools and materials of the moment. Researching multi-medium creation by incorporating video and projection into performance, whether proscenium or installation.
